Sands Point

Sands Point is a residential village at the tip of Cow Neck Peninsula, surrounded by water on three sides. The area contains mansions and landscaped grounds distributed throughout the community.

The village was incorporated in 1910 and soon merged with nearby communities to form the settlement we see today. These early combinations created the foundation for the residential community that developed over the following decades.

The Sands Point Preserve displays mansions and gardens that reflect how wealthy families built and decorated their homes in the early 1900s. Visitors can walk through these spaces and see the architectural choices and landscaping styles of that era.

The location is purely residential with no commercial zones, so visitors should plan ahead for dining and shopping elsewhere. The best experience comes from exploring the Sands Point Preserve and its grounds during fair weather.

Two grand estates shape the landscape here: Hempstead House with its extensive grounds and the nearby Falaise showcase lavish architecture from the region's prosperous era. These properties are now open as museums, offering visitors insight into how wealthy families once lived.
