Located at the tip of Cow Neck Peninsula, Sands Point covers 5.6 square miles of land with water bordering three sides of the territory.
The village, incorporated in 1910, merged with Barkers Point and Motts Point communities in 1912, followed by Harbor Acres integration twenty years later.
The Sands Point Preserve maintains multiple historical estates and gardens that represent the architectural legacy of wealthy families from the early 1900s.
The village operates as an entirely residential area without commercial zones, maintaining a population of 2,712 residents according to the 2020 census.
