Summerwind, Victorian mansion ruins in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin, US.
Summerwind is a Victorian mansion ruin in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin, that once overlooked the lake with decorative arches and stone walls. The original structure today leaves behind two stone chimneys, basement walls, and entrance staircases, while the upper building has long disappeared.
Robert Patterson Lamont, who served as United States Secretary of Commerce, transformed a fishing lodge into a large residence in 1916. The family later abandoned the estate, and the building decayed until it burned down in the 1980s, leaving only masonry remains.
The ruins sit on the western bay of a lake and attract visitors interested in abandoned sites and ghost stories. Locals use the surrounding area for boating and hiking, even though the former estate itself remains off-limits.
The site is not open to visitors, so the ruins can only be viewed from outside or from the water. The best time for a glimpse is in summer, when foliage does not block views and pathways along the lake are passable.
One evening during dinner, the Lamont family saw a figure in the basement, leading someone to fire two shots at the door in panic. Visitors reportedly saw those holes before the house was destroyed.
