New Windsor, Administrative town in Orange County, United States
New Windsor is a town in Orange County that stretches across both land and water areas, with the Hudson River forming its eastern edge. The community includes residential neighborhoods, open spaces, and historic sites throughout its boundaries.
Scottish colonists first settled the area beginning in 1685, and the New York General Assembly officially established the town in 1763. The location later became strategically important during the American Revolution.
The Little Britain Presbyterian Church, established by Irish and Scottish settlers in 1765, served as a military hospital during the Revolutionary War. The building remains a testament to these immigrant communities who shaped the area.
The Town Hall is located on Union Avenue and offers services to residents during weekday hours. Visitors can contact local government offices during regular business hours for information.
The Continental Army operated a large military encampment here during the Revolutionary War that housed thousands of soldiers. This location served as one of the army's most critical bases during that period.
