Amherst State Park, State park in Erie County, New York.

Amherst State Park is a greenspace featuring forests, open meadows, and remnants of fruit orchards, divided by Ellicott Creek into two distinct sections. The grounds blend natural woodland with cultivated gardens and follow the creek's path through the property.

The property was owned by a religious order until 2000, when the State of New York and the Town of Amherst acquired it together for public use. This change marked a shift from private religious stewardship to public recreation and conservation.

The land once served as home to a religious community whose presence shaped the character of this place for generations. Walking through, you can sense how the carefully designed grounds reflected the values and daily rhythms of those who lived here.

The park is open year-round with established trails suitable for walking, running, and dog walking on leashes. Visitors enter through the Mill Street access point in Williamsville, making it easy to find regardless of the season.

Hidden within the park grounds is the Reist Mill, a historic structure that reveals the site's former industrial past. This remnant shows how the creek was once used to power local operations before the land became a recreational space.
