The Cathedral of St. George Historic District spans three buildings at 517-523-525 East Broadway, featuring polychrome Gothic Revival architecture with pointed arches.
Originally constructed in 1872 as a Unitarian church, the cathedral became the center of Albanian Orthodox Church in America after its acquisition in 1949.
The cathedral complex serves the Eastern Orthodox community through regular religious services, educational programs, and maintains connections with Albanian-American heritage.
The cathedral district received restoration grants for structural improvements, including repairs to the roof, windows, masonry work, and exterior lighting installation.
The district encompasses two additional brick houses from the 1870s, originally owned by the Unitarian congregation and now part of the National Register listing.
