Appleton West High School, Secondary school in Appleton, US
Appleton West High School is a public secondary school on North Badger Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin, serving students in grades 9 through 12. The building sits on a sizable campus and includes classrooms, sports facilities, and dedicated spaces for arts and technical training.
The school opened in 1915 under the name Appleton Senior High School and moved to its current building in 1938. It was renamed Appleton West in 1967, when a second high school opened in the city and the two needed to be told apart.
The school houses two specialized programs, the Appleton Technical Academy and the Renaissance School of the Arts, which give students the chance to follow either a technical or an artistic path. This setup makes the school feel different from a typical high school, as the hallways mix students with very different interests and goals.
The school is on North Badger Avenue and can be reached by public transit within Appleton. If you plan to visit the campus, keep in mind that access is usually limited during school hours, so it is better to come outside of regular class time.
Between 2014 and 2016, the school received the Wisconsin RtI Center School of Distinction Award three years in a row, which recognizes schools that show strong progress in supporting students who need extra help. Receiving it three consecutive times is uncommon and reflects a sustained effort rather than a one-time result.
