Barr Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Barr Hotel is a seven-story brick building located at the corner of High and Union Street in Lima, Ohio. It features neoclassical elements including large sash windows, wall-mounted columns with decorative Ionic capitals, and a smaller four-story brick section attached to the main structure.
The hotel officially opened in October 1916, founded by Dr. Eugene Jacob Barr and his son Ortha Orrie Barr Sr., capitalizing on Lima's growth during the oil and railroad boom. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and was converted to apartments in 1994 while preserving its original character.
The building is located at a prominent corner intersection in downtown Lima, making it easy to find and observe from the street. Visitors can admire the exterior architecture and historic design without needing special access to appreciate the structure's key features.
The original structure was engineered with fireproofing features, representing an innovative safety approach during an era when fire was a major threat to travelers. This focus on protection reflects early 20th century forward-thinking design priorities.
