Bear Creek Ski and Recreation Area is a ski resort spanning about 330 acres with 21 trails and seven lifts spread across the mountainside. The vertical drop reaches about 510 feet (155 meters) from the summit at 1,100 feet (335 meters).
The site was home to iron ore mining at Rittenhouse Gap in the 1800s before opening as Doe Mountain Ski Area in 1967 with basic equipment. This transition from industrial use to winter recreation shaped what the place became.
The mountain hosted the first Tough Mudder event in 2010, drawing 4,500 participants and establishing a new tradition of endurance competitions.
Night skiing is available with longer operating hours on weekends than on weekdays. Check seasonal conditions before visiting to make the most of your time on the mountain.
This resort is the only ski area in the entire Lehigh Valley region, making it the closest option for local winter sports enthusiasts. The next comparable facilities are located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north in the Pocono Mountains.
