Boltz Lake, lake in Kentucky
Boltz Lake is a small reservoir in Grant County, Kentucky, covering about 92 acres with natural surroundings of water and trees. The lake has varying depths, with coves along the shoreline and a deepest point in the middle where water reaches nearly 72 feet (22 meters) deep.
The reservoir was built in the late 1950s and has served as a recreation site for the community ever since. Its maintenance and improvement have been shaped by cooperation between local authorities and wildlife agencies, which regularly stock fish populations and support water quality.
The lake is named after A. W. Boltz, an early Kentucky conservation officer whose legacy connects to the outdoor traditions of the region. Local people use this place as a gathering spot for relaxed days on the water, keeping alive a rural tradition of simple outdoor recreation.
The lake is open year-round at no cost, with a paved boat ramp for small boats and shallow waters along the shoreline to explore. Visitors should bring everything needed for the day, as there are no restaurants, restrooms, picnic facilities, or other services on-site.
Visitors can find online maps showing special fishing spots where locals have created fish habitats using submerged trees and brush piles. These water-based structures make certain areas particularly rich in fish and catching opportunities.
