Kentucky Speedway, Motorsport racing track in Sparta, Kentucky
Kentucky Speedway is a motorsport facility in Sparta, Kentucky, built around a 1.5-mile tri-oval track with turns banked at 17 degrees. The layout supports races across different series, allowing drivers to maintain high speeds through the corners.
Construction began in the late 1990s and involved moving more than seven million cubic yards of earth to create the track foundation. The facility opened in June 2000, bringing professional motorsport to this part of Kentucky for the first time.
Sarah Fisher made history at Kentucky Speedway in 2002 by becoming the first woman to earn a pole position in North American open-wheel racing.
The grandstands hold over 100,000 spectators and are positioned at different points along the track. Parking lots, food stands, and merchandise shops are spread throughout the grounds, making it easier to access services during events.
During supply chain disruptions, the parking lots served as storage for thousands of vehicles from Ford and Amazon. This temporary use showed the size and flexibility of the grounds outside race weekends.
