Caffè Lena, Folk music venue in Saratoga Springs, United States.
Caffè Lena is a live music venue in Saratoga Springs, New York, set inside a former woodworking shop in the center of town. Inside, shared tables and couches fill the room, and from any seat the stage is no more than about 30 feet (9 meters) away.
Caffè Lena opened in 1960 and is one of the oldest continuously running live music clubs in the United States. Over the decades, many musicians who would later become widely known, including Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie, performed here early in their careers.
The open mic nights held here every Monday welcome performers of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned musicians, making the stage accessible to anyone who wants to play. This format has kept the venue deeply connected to the local music community over the years.
Food and drinks are served during shows, including local beers, wines, and light meals with vegan and gluten-free options. Arriving early is a good idea since the room is small and fills up quickly for popular performances.
In the 1980s the venue nearly closed due to financial difficulties, but local volunteers stepped in and saved it from shutting down. It has been run as a nonprofit ever since, which is rare for a club of this size and history.
