Campus of the University of Arkansas

Campus of the University of Arkansas

The Campus of the University of Arkansas spreads across hilltops with over 130 buildings mixing historic brick structures with modern facilities. Old Main, built in the 1870s with a French mansard roof, anchors the campus alongside contemporary research centers and academic halls surrounded by mature trees.

Founded in 1871 to teach agriculture and engineering, the university began classes in a simple farmhouse before expanding rapidly. Old Main, constructed in the 1870s, became the state's largest building at the time and survived multiple fires due to its thick brick walls.

The university holds strong traditions passed down through generations of students and alumni. The Razorback mascot and the "Woo Pig Sooie" cheer echo across campus during games, connecting current and former students in a shared identity.

The campus is easy to navigate on foot, with pathways connecting buildings and open green spaces for resting. Senior Walk, a four-mile-long sidewalk with graduate names inscribed, offers a scenic route and makes a good starting point for exploring the grounds.

Spoofer's Stone, a large rock from the 1870s, has served as a place where couples got engaged and broke off small pieces as keepsakes, with countless letters left there over generations. Though repaired several times, it remains a cherished spot where visitors take photos and connect with campus traditions.
