Camp Half Moon, Summer camp in Monterey, Massachusetts
Camp Half Moon is a residential camp located on the shores of Lake Buel in Massachusetts, featuring cabins, shared spaces, and various outdoor facilities. The grounds accommodate children and teenagers of different age groups with plenty of room for activities and programs.
The camp was founded in 1922 as a boys-only facility and later expanded to serve mixed groups. During the 1950s and 1960s, it welcomed many students from Latin America, particularly families from Cuba.
The camp hosts different activities like sports, arts, and outdoor adventures that help children develop new skills throughout their time here. You can see how groups work together and learn from each other during these programs.
Registration for summer programs opens in the early months of the year with different options for various age groups. Families can choose from separate or mixed-gender group programs based on their child's needs.
The Mann family from Pennsylvania took over the camp in 1967 from a longtime operator who had run it for 25 years. This transition marked a new chapter in the facility's history.
