Century III Mall, Shopping center in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, US.
Century III Mall was a two-level shopping center spread across 90 acres, housing more than 250 retail stores and several department stores throughout its structure. The complex featured multiple entrances and extensive parking areas to serve visitors.
The mall opened in 1979 with 75 initial stores including major retailers Kaufmann's and JCPenney, quickly becoming one of the largest shopping centers in the country. It operated for over four decades before eventually closing.
The shopping center was named to honor Pittsburgh's 300th anniversary, linking the site to local history and the region's commercial identity.
The property has transitioned from an active shopping center to a redevelopment site, with local officials and investors planning the future use of the land. The area is currently restricted to the public during demolition and redevelopment work.
The mall was built on a former slag dump, transforming abandoned industrial ground into a thriving commercial destination for the local community. This repurposing made it a notable example of urban recovery and land redevelopment in the Pittsburgh area.
