Cedarville State Forest, Nature reserve and state forest in Maryland, United States.

Cedarville State Forest is a protected woodland reserve covering about 3,510 acres with dense forests, wetland areas, and the extensive Zekiah Swamp watershed system. The landscape contains a mix of mature trees, open water areas, and marshy ground.

The state forest was established in 1930 by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources starting with about 2,631 acres. Subsequent land purchases expanded its size over the following decades.

The Piscataway Indian Tribe established winter camps here because the land offered mild winters and plentiful game to hunt. Visitors walking through can sense why this location held such importance for sustaining communities.

The forest has multiple trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding along with designated areas for camping, fishing, and seasonal hunting. Visitors should stay on marked trails and check which activities are allowed during their visit.

The forest sits at the source of Zekiah Swamp, one of the region's largest wetland systems that stretches southward for considerable distance. This swamp ecosystem supports specialized plant and animal life adapted to wet conditions.
