Central Diner, Restaurant in den Vereinigten Staaten
Central Diner is a small steel building from 1947 with a rounded barrel roof that is about 10 feet (3 meters) wide and 40 feet (12 meters) long. The original structure was later expanded with a kitchen and additional dining area while keeping classic features like red porcelain panels, large operable windows, and an overhanging roof.
The diner was built in 1947 by the Worcester Lunch Car Company and originally sat in downtown Providence near offices and train stations. In 1953 it relocated to Elmwood Avenue, where it remained through various ownership changes and name shifts while continuing to serve customers for decades.
The diner has served as a gathering place for the community for decades, where people from all walks of life come to eat and spend time together. Its simple layout with counter seating and booths creates a setting where everyone feels welcome.
The diner is easy to access with large operable windows that bring in fresh air and a welcoming front entrance for customers. The interior provides seating for about 14 people at the counter and several booths for larger groups.
The diner was featured on the television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2010, bringing it national attention. A former owner restored the building and donated part of the profits to plant special trees along Elmwood Avenue.
