Cheat Canyon, Natural canyon in Preston County, West Virginia, US
The Cheat Canyon extends for 10 miles through the Allegheny Mountains with steep forested slopes rising 1,200 feet from the riverbed to the rim.
The first European settlers in the Cheat River area were the Dunkards, an Anabaptist religious sect who arrived in the canyon region in 1772.
The Cheat Festival in May features the Cheat River Race, where 150 paddlers participate in a mass start format through challenging rapids.
The canyon contains Class IV rapids with sections reaching Class V at higher water levels, making it suitable for experienced whitewater kayaking and rafting.
The canyon houses the rare Cheat threetooth snail, which exists nowhere else in the world and lives within five feet of rocky outcrops.
