The City Tavern Club occupies a three-story Georgian brick building at 3206 M Street NW in Georgetown, featuring period architectural details and formal dining rooms.
Built in 1796, this Federal-era tavern welcomed prominent figures including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams during the early years of the American Republic.
The establishment served as a central meeting point for Georgetown's governing body, hosting elections, judicial proceedings, and community gatherings until its closure in 2024.
The City Tavern Preservation Foundation currently manages the property and organizes educational programs about American history and architecture for the public.
This structure stands as the last remaining Federal-era tavern in Washington DC, rescued from demolition in 1959 by local residents including Paul Mellon.
