Coast Guard Station Eatons Neck, Coast Guard station in Northport, New York, United States.
Coast Guard Station Eatons Neck is an active maritime rescue station on the north shore of Long Island, New York, situated along Long Island Sound. It operates rescue vessels and communication equipment continuously, covering distress calls across a wide stretch of coastal waters.
The station was established in 1849, making it the oldest active Coast Guard facility in New York state. It grew out of early organized maritime rescue efforts along the East Coast at a time when shipping traffic was expanding rapidly.
The station has a memorial for Petty Officer Nathan Bruckenthal, who died in 2004 during a mission in Iraq. He was the first Coast Guard member killed in combat since the Korean War, and his name is tied to the tradition of service at this post.
The station is an active military installation, so public access is limited and visitors should stay within any designated areas. The lighthouse and outer grounds can be viewed from certain points on site, and calm weather offers a clearer look at the waterfront.
The lighthouse on the grounds holds an original Third Order Fresnel lens from the 19th century, a type of optical system that was replaced in most lighthouses long ago. This one remains intact and in working condition, which is rare for a lens of this age still in its original location.
