Confluence, Modern sculpture at Indianapolis Art Center, United States.
Confluence is a modern sculpture at the Indianapolis Art Center that stretches like a boat shape along the White River. The structure features vertical columns carved from approximately 100 tons of Indiana limestone.
The sculpture was created during an artist residency in summer 2004 and became the first artwork acquired for the Indianapolis Art Center's ARTSPARK initiative. This marked the beginning of a new program supporting large-scale installations in public spaces.
Text carved into the vertical stones carries messages, including the phrase 'My soul has grown deep like the rivers'. These inscriptions invite visitors to reflect on the relationship between people and nature.
The sculpture is located on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center and can be viewed during operating hours. The riverside location offers easy access and allows visitors to explore the installation from different angles.
Local community members participated in creating the sculpture by operating stone tools under the artist's guidance. This participatory approach transformed the artwork's creation into a shared project that extended beyond the artist's individual vision.
