Commonwealth, Bronze statue on State Capitol dome in Harrisburg, United States

The Commonwealth statue rises 14 feet tall at the top of Pennsylvania State Capitol, featuring a female figure holding a staff and shield facing east.

In 1905, architect Joseph Huston commissioned Roland Hinton Perry to create this bronze statue, which was lifted using steam hoists to the dome.

The statue represents Pennsylvania's commitment to agriculture, commerce, and industry through its symbolic elements and positioning above the state government building.

Visitors can observe the Commonwealth statue from multiple vantage points around the Pennsylvania State Capitol grounds throughout the year without entrance fees.

The bronze figure weighs three tons and stands upon a gilded ball, making the total height of the sculpture reach eighteen feet.
