Established in 1888 through the New Parks Act, the land previously belonged to the Bathgate family estate before becoming a municipal park.
The Crotona Play Center, constructed in 1936 during the Works Progress Administration project, stands as a national and city-designated architectural landmark.
The New York City Department of Parks maintains the grounds, offering tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, and a swimming pool complex.
Indian Lake, covering 3.3 acres within the park, serves as a natural water feature supporting local wildlife and vegetation communities.
