Claremont Park, Public park in Morrisania, Bronx, United States.
Claremont Park is a public park in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx, shaped like a triangle and bordered by East 170th Street, Mount Eden Avenue, and Clay Avenue. It has two outdoor swimming pools, sports courts, baseball fields, barbecue areas, and playgrounds spread across its grounds.
The land was owned by the Morris family from 1679 until Gouverneur Morris sold it in 1848 to Elliot Zborowski, who built Claremont Mansion on the site. The mansion later served as an operations base for the Parks Department before it was eventually demolished.
The Mount Eden Farmers' Market runs here from June through November, drawing locals who come to buy fresh produce and spend time together. On market days, the park takes on a different feel, with stalls and conversations filling the space.
The park is easy to reach by public transit, with several subway and bus options nearby. The outdoor pools and sports areas get busy on warm days, so arriving earlier in the day gives you more room to move around.
A small gazebo built in 1938 marks the exact spot where Claremont Mansion once stood, and it is the only visible trace of the former estate left in the park. Most visitors pass it without realizing what once occupied that ground.
