Hall of Fame for Great Americans, Hall of Fame in The Bronx, United States.
The Hall of Fame for Great Americans is a hall of fame in The Bronx, United States, with a colonnade measuring 630 feet (192 meters) long. The facility at Bronx Community College displays bronze busts of Americans along a circular walkway under open sky.
New York University opened the hall in 1900 on its Bronx campus. Bronx Community College took over the facility in 1973 after the university relocated.
Sculptors created the bronze busts following uniform guidelines and placed them on columns along the open gallery. Visitors walk among the portraits and read the names on the pedestals, which represent figures from science, politics, and literature.
Visitors enter the facility through the Bronx Community College grounds and find the busts on a raised terrace overlooking the surroundings. Guided tours take place during campus opening hours from Monday through Saturday, though people can walk the circuit independently.
Candidates must be deceased for at least 25 years before a panel votes on their induction. The committee meets only at certain intervals, so years can pass between new additions.
