Deflected Jets

Deflected Jets is an abstract stainless steel sculpture located at Engine Company 29 and mounted on a red brick base. The polished metal work features a dynamic geometric form that suggests redirected water jets.

The artwork was unveiled in 1988 by Mayor Henry N. Maier following a competition held by the Milwaukee Art Commission. It was created through the Percent for Art program, which allocated public funds for art installations at public locations.

The sculpture honors firefighting work and carries an inscription dedicated to the Guardians of Public Safety of the Milwaukee Fire Department. The site holds special meaning for the local community as a monument to the service and dedication of these emergency responders.

The sculpture sits outdoors at Engine Company 29 and is freely accessible to visitors without restrictions. The work is easily visible from the street and requires no advance booking or special arrangements to view.

Artist Guido Peter Brink was born in Germany and made an unusual career shift from stained glass craftsmanship to three-dimensional sculpture. He worked with local manufacturing resources in the city to create the polished steel piece on site.
