Dorset, unincorporated community in Henrietta Township, Hubbard County, Minnesota, United States
Dorset is an unincorporated community in Henrietta Township, Ashtabula County, in northeastern Ohio, USA. It sits along State Route 193, made up of simple houses on wide, low-traffic streets, set within flat to gently rolling farmland.
The settlement was founded in 1828 under the name Millsford before being renamed Dorset after the Vermont hometown of early settlers. In the 19th century, a railroad station and a milk factory turned it into a small trading point, and John Brown Junior, son of the abolitionist John Brown, lived here for around 30 years starting in the mid-1800s.
The name Dorset was brought by settlers from a town of the same name in Vermont, who wanted to carry a piece of home with them. The local church remains the main gathering point for residents, and the surrounding farmland gives the place its open, rural character.
The community is in Ashtabula County in northeastern Ohio and is most easily reached by car via State Route 193. The terrain is flat and open, making it easy to explore the surrounding country roads, particularly in spring and summer.
Tower Road takes its name from a railroad tower that still stands in the area, left over from when trains regularly moved goods through this crossing. This small structure is one of the few visible signs that the place once served as a junction for regional freight traffic.
