East Side Lake, body of water
East Side Lake is a reservoir in Austin created by a dam that forms a body of water used for recreation. The surrounding park includes picnic shelters, a playground, a fishing dock, a boat landing, and the Trellis Trail for walking.
A dam on Dobbins Creek once fed Beaver Lake but was destroyed by flooding in 1892, leaving behind swampland. Decades later, Jacob Herzog pushed for the lake's restoration, and with government work programs in the 1930s, water filled the basin in 1938.
The lake serves as a gathering place where neighbors spend time together and enjoy outdoor moments by the water. People use the picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking trails to relax with family and friends.
The area is easy to access with parking available for visitors near the lake. Facilities include a restroom building with a fountain and covered shelters for resting or picnicking.
A viewpoint called Herzog View honors Jacob Herzog, the man who fought for decades to restore the lake. This memorial features a small pavilion and railings offering views of the dam and insight into the story behind it.
