Edge Elements, Public granite sculpture in South Shore Park, Milwaukee, United States
Edge Elements is a series of granite sculptures dispersed along the shoreline in South Shore Park. The five stone pieces offer seating and views toward Lake Michigan, combining Wisconsin red granite with carved white granite details throughout.
The project took shape in 2006 during South Shore Park's redevelopment as part of a public art investment. The sculptures were created to honor outdoor spaces and their connection to the city.
The Americans for the Arts Public Art Network recognized Edge Elements in 2008 as an exceptional project during their annual Year in Review selection.
Visitors can explore the stone sculptures from the surrounding paths and sit within the various formations. The installation sits easily accessible on the shoreline, ideal for a brief stop during a park visit.
The red and white granites were deliberately chosen to reflect Wisconsin's geological character. Each sculpture functions differently as either a seating area or vantage point.
