Akhangaran reservoir, dam in Ohangaron, Tashkent region
Akhangaran reservoir is a large body of water located in Tashkent province, constructed along the Akhangaran river to store water for farming and local supply. The water surface stretches across several kilometers and is held back by an earth dam approximately 100 meters (328 feet) high and nearly 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) long.
The reservoir opened in 1989 as part of regional water management efforts to support farming during dry seasons. Since then, it has helped farmers maintain stable water supplies for growing wheat, vegetables, and other crops.
The reservoir serves as a gathering place where local farmers collect water for their fields and where residents come to walk along the shore in their daily routines. This spot reflects how water management is central to life in the community and shapes the way people organize their work.
The area is easy to reach on foot with small paths and dirt roads leading to the water, keeping the terrain natural and open. The best time to visit is during cooler months, as summer heat can be intense and the water less inviting for activities.
The water level in the reservoir changes noticeably throughout the year depending on rainfall and river flow, making the shoreline visibly expand or shrink. These changes offer visitors a direct view of how water circulates as a vital resource across the region.
