Equestrian statue of Timur in Tashkent

The equestrian bronze statue in Yunusabad depicts Timur wearing a crown-shaped helmet, holding a sword in its scabbard and with a shield fastened to the saddle. The sculpture rises from a raised base at the center of a public square named after him.

The statue was inaugurated on August 31, 1993, marking the second anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, with President Islam Karimov attending the ceremony. Its establishment reflected the nation's emphasis on this historic leader following the country's separation from Soviet rule.

The inscription on the base displays Timur's name and his motto "Power in Justice" in Uzbek, Russian, English, and Arabic. These multilingual texts reflect the diverse cultures that shaped his historical realm.

The monument stands at the center of a public square in Yunusabad and is easy to locate by looking for the tall bronze equestrian figure. The plaza is open and accessible, offering space to walk around and view the statue from different angles.

The statue appears on Uzbek banknotes, postage stamps, and commemorative coins, including the 500 som note from 1999. Its presence on currency shows how central this figure is to the nation's sense of identity.
