Kyzyl-Kala, Ancient fortress in Beruniy District, Uzbekistan
Kyzyl-Kala is a square fortress in Beruniy with defensive towers on all sides and walls that rise several meters high. Inside, you find residential rooms, a temple, and streets that show how people lived there in the past.
The fortress was built between the 1st and 4th centuries as an outpost along an important trade route. It was later abandoned during the Mongol period in the 13th century.
The fortress housed multiple communities, as shown by residential spaces, places of worship, and areas for daily activities. People from the region today connect this place with their past as an important trading hub.
Access is through an entrance on the second floor on the southeast side via a ramp. Information boards in several languages help visitors understand the fortress's structure and details.
Below the fortress are basement chambers where snakes shelter from the desert heat. Local stories link these underground spaces to hidden treasures guarded by nature itself.
