Long Xuyên

Long Xuyen is a provincial capital in the Mekong Delta that spreads across both sides of the Hau Giang River. The city is connected by roads and water channels that link neighborhoods and facilitate daily movement and commerce.

The settlement originated in 1789 as a small outpost near the Tam Khe canal and gradually developed into a trading hub. It received city status in 1999, marking its formal establishment as a major administrative center for the region.

Several religions shape the character of the place through pagodas, churches, and mosques that serve as everyday gathering points for residents. These buildings reflect how different communities coexist within the same urban space.

The city is located about 189 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City with regular bus connections to the metropolitan area. Visitors will find the city easier to explore during drier months when both water routes and roads are most accessible.

The floating market on the Hau Giang River operates every morning before sunrise and represents one of the last active markets of this kind in the region. Traders sell fresh produce directly from wooden boats in a daily ritual that few outsiders witness firsthand.
