Vietnam National University, Public research university in Hanoi, Vietnam
Vietnam National University is a public research university in Hanoi comprising ten member universities and faculties that offer bachelor, master and doctoral programs. The institution spreads across multiple locations in the city, with each faculty maintaining its own buildings, research labs and administrative structures.
The institution began in 1906 as the University of Indochina under French colonial administration, focusing on medicine, law and humanities. After independence it was renamed in 1945 and received its current structure with multiple autonomous member universities in 1993.
The campus hosts international students and scholars from several countries who participate in research projects and exchange programs. Libraries and lecture halls attract thousands of students daily during semester time, studying in groups or attending classes.
Individual faculties are located at different sites across Hanoi, so visitors may need several trips to explore different areas. The main campus sits near West Lake and can be reached by public transport or taxi from the city center.
Within the system, the university runs four specialized high schools for gifted students in foreign languages, natural sciences, social sciences and educational technology. These schools also serve as experimental sites for pedagogical research and new teaching methods developed by affiliated faculties.
