House "De Waal", Organic architecture residence in Rijnsweerd, Netherlands.
House De Waal is a residential building featuring organic architecture located in Utrecht, constructed with sand-colored brick and reinforced concrete. The curved walls and slanted lines follow natural forms that appear both on the exterior and throughout the interior spaces.
Architect Anton Alberts designed this private residence beginning in 1980, developing the building through clay models to refine the design. The structure was later reinforced with titanium plates to address moisture absorption issues in the brick walls.
The residence embodies anthroposophical design principles that integrate organic forms and reject conventional right angles in its layout. Visitors experience this philosophy directly through the curved geometry that shapes every room.
The building is located at Johan Buziaulaan 15-19 in Utrecht and stands out visually because of its distinctive curved form that makes it instantly recognizable. Access is through the main entrance like a regular house, though the architecture can also be appreciated from the street.
The interior spaces resemble natural cave formations created by the combination of reinforced concrete and brick materials. This spatial design creates unexpected proportions that typical residential buildings do not offer.
