F.A.F.C. Wentgebouw, University building in Utrecht Science Park, Netherlands
F.A.F.C. Wentgebouw was a cubic structure located at Sorbonnelaan 16 in Utrecht Science Park, rising 50 meters tall with eight floors and technical levels. The building housed laboratories and teaching spaces for pharmacy, chemistry, and biology studies.
The building was constructed in 1974 and named after botanist Friedrich Went, serving as a faculty building for the university. It initially housed the Faculty of Dentistry and later accommodated other sciences before its demolition between 2013 and 2015.
The building contained an extensive collection of dental heritage gathered since 1877, including contributions from Theodore Dentz, now preserved at Utrecht University Museum.
The site was accessible via pedestrian pathways through the science park, with the building's cubic form making it easy to identify among surrounding structures. After renovations in the 1990s, the exterior space featured a pond and fountain by Joop Beljon, which provided a visual reference point for visitors.
The building was known by several informal nicknames, including De Ponskaart and De Holle Kies, both referencing its distinctive facade and shape. These names reflected how memorable the geometric form was to the people who frequented the science park daily.
