Studentencomplex Cambridgelaan, Student housing complex in Utrecht Science Park, Netherlands
Studentencomplex Cambridgelaan comprises two 16-story towers linked by pedestrian bridges alongside ten lower buildings of 4 to 5 stories. The entire development accommodates approximately 1000 students across its various residential buildings.
Construction started in 1997 with the lower buildings completed in 1998 and the tower section finished in spring 1999. This project emerged to meet the growing need for student housing near the university campus.
The Cambridgebar inside functions as a social gathering point run by student volunteers, serving as a place where residents naturally come together for informal meetings and conversation.
The complex sits directly beside Utrecht Science Park with immediate access to university buildings on the campus. The city center of Utrecht is roughly 15 minutes away by bicycle from this location.
The design deliberately contrasts modern towers with the rural landscape surrounding the site while occupying about one hectare. This mix of scale and form creates an unexpected character that blends city life with open countryside.
