Hondsrugtoren, Residential tower in Emmen, Netherlands
The Hondsrugtoren is a residential tower with 17 floors in Emmen's city center. It combines 28 rental apartments on lower levels with 19 owner-occupied units above, and provides covered parking for 80 bicycles in an underground garage.
Construction began in March 2019 and finished in 2020, representing a new phase of residential growth in the Drenthe region. This development responded to changing housing needs in the area.
The tower takes its name from the Hondsrug, a sand ridge that runs through the landscape between Emmen and Groningen. This geographical reference is visible in how locals talk about their city and its surroundings.
The tower is easily accessible from Emmen's city center and offers good access to nearby shops and services. Ample bicycle storage in the garage makes cycling around town convenient.
When completed, it became the tallest residential building in Drenthe province, surpassing a record that had stood for 47 years. This achievement made it a new landmark for the city.
