Bodø Cathedral, Cathedral in Bodø, Norway.
Bodø Cathedral is a modern structure built from concrete with a basilica layout and a 36-meter clock tower holding three bells at its base. It accommodates roughly 850 people for worship services and community events.
The original wooden church was destroyed during World War II bombing in 1940. Architects Gudolf Blakstad and Herman Munthe-Kaas then designed this new building as part of the city's post-war reconstruction.
Inside, a large stained glass window by artist Åge Storstein catches the light, and outside a sculpture of Petter Dass by Kristoffer Leirdal greets visitors. These works connect the building to local figures and serve as gathering points for the community.
The cathedral sits centrally on Torvgata 12 and is easy to reach on foot. The building has wheelchair access and is well-equipped for visitors with different mobility needs.
Inside is a memorial plaque with inscriptions honoring those from Bodø who died during the occupation from 1940 to 1945. This quiet corner serves as an important place of remembrance for the local community.
