Vor Frue Hospital, Oslo

Vor Frue Hospital is a three-story brick building in Hammersborg completed in 1896, housing medical departments, operating rooms, and a chapel in one structure. The design integrated patient care with spiritual life, reflecting the institution's religious mission at the time.

The Catholic St. Joseph Sisters founded this hospital in 1883 as the first Catholic hospital in Oslo since the Reformation period. It represented a return of Catholic charitable institutions to a city that had been Protestant for centuries.

The hospital reflected the Sisters' commitment to care for the poor and sick in their community. Its transformation from a Catholic institution to a public healthcare facility shows how medical services in Oslo became increasingly secular over time.
