Nuwakot District, Administrative district in Bagmati Province, Nepal.
The district covers 1,121 square kilometers of varied terrain, from tropical zones to alpine regions, with Bidur serving as its administrative headquarters.
King Prithvi Narayan Shah established Nuwakot as his capital after conquering the territory from Jaya Prakash Malla during Nepal's unification campaign.
The name Nuwakot comes from 'nawa' meaning nine and 'kort' meaning sacred sites, reflecting the district's nine hilltop religious locations.
The district contains two operational hydropower stations and Nepal's largest solar power plant, contributing significant energy to the national grid.
Nuwakot Durbar, a seven-story citadel in Bidur Municipality, stands as a central point where thousands gather during the Dashain festival.
