Mount Guiting-Guiting, Mountain peak in Sibuyan Island, Philippines
Mount Guiting-Guiting is a mountain on Sibuyan Island reaching 2058 meters high and features sharp ridges with steep rock faces, especially along its northern section. The peak displays jagged ridge lines and exposed rock formations throughout.
The mountain was first successfully climbed on June 17, 1982 by four mountaineers, marking the start of documented ascents. This event opened the way for later recognition of the peak as a technical climbing destination.
The name comes from the local dialect and means jagged, which reflects the sharp ridge profile and rocky terrain that defines this peak.
Visitors must register at the DENR office in Magdiwang and obtain a permit before starting the multi-day technical climb. The trekking route demands physical fitness and experience navigating steep, rocky sections.
The mountain hosts around 700 vascular plant species, with 54 types found only on Sibuyan Island. This concentration of plant life makes it a center of botanical interest.
