Aguinaldo Shrine, Historical museum and presidential mansion in Kawit, Philippines
The Aguinaldo Shrine is a presidential mansion and museum in Kawit, Philippines, designated as a National Shrine. The multi-story estate combines colonial wooden architecture with later stone additions and houses exhibition rooms across several levels.
The Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain was read here on June 12, 1898. The building started as a 19th-century family home, later expanded across the decades.
The name comes from the Philippines' first president, whose family occupied the estate across generations. Visitors today see rooms with original furniture and objects from the daily life of a political family at the turn of the 20th century.
The National Historical Commission manages the rooms and provides visitors with information upon request. A tour leads through several rooms and the outdoor area with the garden.
Hidden passages lead between several rooms inside the building. In the garden stands a restored 1924 Packard that once belonged to the president.
