Bugui Point lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Aroroy, Philippines
Bugui Point lighthouse is a stone tower with a cylindrical shape rising 15 meters at the northern tip of Masbate Island. The structure features a balcony and lantern chamber at the top, making it visible from the surrounding waters and coastline.
Construction started in 1893 but was halted during the Philippine Revolution in 1896. Work resumed afterward under American administration and was completed in 1902.
The structure reflects Spanish colonial influence on maritime navigation in these waters. It served as one element in a broader effort to guide ships safely through the island passages.
Reaching the site requires taking a boat from Aroroy Port, with the trip taking around one hour each way. It is best to travel early in the morning when water conditions are calmer and visibility is better.
The lighthouse emits three white flashes every ten seconds, with the beam visible up to 20 nautical miles across the Sibuyan Sea and Masbate Pass. This extended range makes it a key navigation marker for vessels passing through the challenging straits in this region.
