The Fort of São Pedro do Estoril features a quadrangular design with cylindrical towers at its corners and faces directly towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Construction of the fort began on April 5, 1642, under King João IV of Portugal to protect the coastline between Fort of São Julião da Barra and Cabo da Roca.
The structure represents Portuguese military architecture and demonstrates the defensive strategies employed during the Restoration War period of the 1640s.
The fort stands along Avenida Marginal, the main coastal road connecting Lisbon to Cascais, and operates currently as an entertainment venue.
Originally named Forte de São Teodósio, the building transformed from a military structure into a tea house in 1954 and later became a popular nightclub.
