Fort of São Pedro do Estoril

Fort of São Pedro do Estoril is a fortification with four corners and round towers facing directly toward the Atlantic. The structure sits beside a coastal road and now operates as an event venue.

The fortification was built in the 1640s to protect the coastline in this region. It was part of a network of defensive structures spread between two other fortresses further north and south.

The fort shows Portuguese military building methods from a time when coastal towns needed protection from attacks. You can see today how its sturdy construction reflected this defensive purpose.

The fort is easy to reach on foot or by car from central Cascais and sits directly along a main road. Visitors should check what events are planned before visiting since it now functions as a venue.

The original building had a different name and was transformed from a military structure into a tea house in the mid-20th century. It later became a popular spot for nighttime events.
