Capela do Senhor da Pedra

Capela do Senhor da Pedra is a hexagonal chapel built directly on a rock formation at the beach's edge. Inside, baroque and rococo gilded wooden altarpieces decorate the walls, along with blue ceramic tile panels.

Construction of this chapel started in 1686 at a location previously used for religious practices. The building was completed to serve the spiritual needs of the coastal community during that period.

The chapel serves as a gathering place for pilgrims from nearby communities who come to express their devotion during religious celebrations. These visits reflect deep-rooted spiritual traditions that have shaped the identity of the local population over centuries.

The chapel is accessible daily, but you reach it by walking across rocks, so wear sturdy shoes and move carefully. Check tide conditions before your visit, as high waves can make the rocky path difficult to navigate at certain times.
