Mosteiro de Cete

Mosteiro de Cete is a monastery with a single-nave church featuring a wooden ceiling and a main chapel with a rounded dome shape. The structure displays Romanesque architectural features and spans multiple rooms connected to the religious spaces.

The monastery was founded in the 10th century and underwent major reconstruction work during the 13th and 14th centuries. These renovations created much of what visitors see in the building today.

Stone carvings of Saint Peter and Saint Luzia stand in the chapel, created at different times to serve the local faith community. Mural paintings from the 16th century cover some walls, showing how religious art once decorated this space.

The site is walkable from central Cete and accessible to visitors year-round. Wearing comfortable shoes helps when exploring the different rooms and levels of the complex.

A bell tower houses a burial chapel with walls decorated in Mudejar tile work from the 16th century, which represents a blend of Christian and Moorish design elements. Visitors can see this fusion of artistic styles preserved within this single space.
