Mosteiro do Salvador de Paço de Sousa

The monastery exhibits carved vegetal ornamentation and long friezes on its exterior and interior walls, reflecting medieval architectural craftsmanship from the 13th century.

The original monastery was founded in 994 by Trutesendo Galindes and his wife Anímia, with the current church structure dating from the 13th century.

The church holds the tomb of Egas Moniz de Ribadouro, guardian of King D. Afonso Henriques, featuring two distinct tomb chests from different centuries.

Visitors can explore the monastery from Wednesday to Sunday between 10:00-13:00 and 14:00-18:00, with parking available at Largo do Mosteiro.

The monastery established a specific architectural style known as nationalized Romanesque, combining pre-Romanesque elements with influences from Coimbra and Porto Cathedral.
