The Madeira Whale Museum spans multiple floors with exhibits featuring original whaling equipment, marine biology laboratories, and life-size cetacean replicas suspended from ceilings.

Established in 1989 and relocated to its current location in 2011, this institution preserves the maritime heritage of Madeira's whaling activities throughout the 20th century.

The museum maintains an extensive ethnographic collection documenting the traditions of local fishermen through photographs, tools, and personal accounts from former whalers.

Located 20 kilometers from Funchal, the museum welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 to 18:00, with wheelchair access and guided tours in multiple languages.

The facility incorporates stereoscopic 3D film technology and research laboratories dedicated to studying marine ecosystems in the waters surrounding Madeira.
