The company was founded in 1932 as Companhia Portuguesa de Filmes Sonoros Tobis Klangfilm and became a key player in Portuguese filmmaking. It operated as a production and post-production center for decades.

The studios were a major center for Portuguese film production between 1933 and 1984, shaping the country's cinema. Visitors can walk through spaces where many celebrated national films were created and developed.
