Description
The Dacian fortress of Jigodin is an archaeological site with remains of stone walls and defensive structures from ancient times. The ruins sit on elevated terrain near the Olt River and display the layout of an ancient military settlement.
History
The fortress was built in the first century and served as a strategic outpost before the Roman conquest of Dacia in 106 AD. After this conquest, it lost its military importance and was abandoned.
Culture
The excavations reveal how the Dacians built and organized their settlements across the hilltop. Findings show evidence of crafts, storage practices, and the daily routines of those who lived here.

The site is accessible throughout the year and sits on a hillside, so comfortable clothing and proper footwear are recommended. Directional signs from town mark the routes to the location.
